At the tail end of last year, the SNP was extremely proud to say that they would be lifting the public sector pay freeze and increase it in line with inflation which would come into effect on the 1st April 2018. However, this hasn’t actually happened for staff members of NHS Scotland.

Instead, every single member of staff in the NHS has been forced to go without the cost of living increase. The reason for this is that Shona Robinson has decided to see what kind of deal NHS England are going to give to their staff, and then follow suit. Both Unite and Unison have been trying their hardest to get her and the merry band of misfits in the SNP to agree to a cost of living increase that will benefit the staff.

Whilst the negoations are ongoing, staff members have been told that they will get backdated money. However, the problem with this is that people still have bills to pay and due to prices increasing year on year, staff members are just now actually out of pocket. This is especially apparent when it comes to the council tax, which the SNP is also in charge of. The council tax price per household has increased again this year, so NHS Scotland staff are in the red on this one.

This comes hot on the heels of numerous mistakes by the SNP and Shona Robinson when it comes to the NHS. The waiting times at the QEUH are still attrocious, but don’t worry, the SNP have control of it (or so they would have you believe). If NHS staff members decided to strike, then the public should be firmly behind them on this one. The other public sector workers have received their money, so why should the people that save lives, or are part of the overall dynamic be left in the dark on this one? The shouldn’t, and it is just further proof that Robinson and Sturgeon aren’t fit for purpose.
